Manuel Solans, from a Mediterranean background, discovered the violin
at the age of six. Having graduated from the
Ecole Normale de
Musique de Paris at a very young age, he started his
career at 15 as a
member of the Ensemble Instrumental de Provence.
Subsequently he joined
the Ensemble Instrumental de France,
the Ars Nova Ensemble, the
Ensemble International de Paris as solo violin, and as
second soloist
the Jerusalem Winter Festival Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Lorin
Maazel and Yoël Levy (1994).
His professional experience was thus enriched through working with
prestigious musicians such as M Rostropovitch,Z Mehta, P
Domingo, N Yepes, N Freire, but also P Mauriat, M Solal, D Humair, S
Gadd,
M Legrand. during festivals and concert tours throughout
Europe,
Israel, Japan, China, Korea and the South Pacific.
An eclectic musician, he takes the opportunity of his many travels to
discover the instruments and musical traditions of the countries he
visits. It was during a tour of Japan that he met Mieko Miyazaki, who
helped him to develop his knowledge of Japanese music. Along
with Bruno Maurice (Accordion), they decided to found a new ensemble
based around the Koto, called the MIYAZAKI TRIO,
ensemble whose
repertoire ranges from World Music soundscapes to improvisation to
contemporary music.
Manuel Solans is also a well-known teacher, having studied himself with
the famous teacher Dominique Hoppenot
whose precious inheritance he now
transmits to his students at the National conservatory of
the Bordeaux
Region, the Aquitaine CEFEDEM,
and in regular Masterclasses in
conservatories and music schools in France and abroad.
Some of his students have distinguished themselves as prizewinners in
international competitions, or by obtaining the State Diploma of the
French Ministry of Culture or by joining
prestigious schools or
orchestral ensembles such as the Berlin Musikhoschule,
the National
Conservatories of Paris and Lyons, the
Orchestra of the Paris Opera,
the Barcelona Théâtre Liceu Orchestra,
etc..
